Professor Pau de Vílchez, deputy director of the LINCC and member of the LIDIB, will participate in COP26 on behalf of the UIB

Professor de Vílchez represents the UIB at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP26, organized by the United Kingdom in collaboration with Italy, which will be held from October 31 to November 12, 2021 in Glasgow (United Kingdom). Pau de Vílchez is Doctor and Professor of Public International Law at the UIB and focuses his research on the intersection between international law, the environment and human rights. In this sense, he is a member of the Climate Change Litigation Initiative (C2LI), promoted by the universities of Strathclyde, Geneva and Singapore, focused on the study of climate litigation around the world and that will be presented during the summit.

This initiative will be presented within the framework of the Climate Change Legislation, Litigation and Rule of Law conference, on November 6, with the participation of Dr. de Vílchez, who will also participate in various activities related to the legal obligations of States and companies to make against climate change, among others, due to its impact on human rights.

This will be an opportunity for the University of the Balearic Islands to establish contacts with other universities that have assumed responsible strategies and commitments to reduce emissions. The UIB has joined the Race to Zero campaign this week and has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
